I have recently set up a website at www.j-racing.co.uk that some of you may be interested in.
It is about the Japanese racing drivers and the racing scene in Japan. Although it is a little thin on content at the moment, I would appreciate any feedback with regard to the style, layout etc and the information that is there at the moment.

Its an interesting site, do they show any on TV, more importanly is it any good?
Just a point on the site itself, can I suggest you make it viewable in 800x600 (simply tweeking the button bar will make the site a lot more user friendly for a lot of people)
Other wise all good and very interesting! Will be awaiting all the coming soon bits

Looks good and has already provided interesting info - I hadn't realised Sato was moving to BAR - Should probably pay more attention!!
I know u say u are a bit thin on content, but I would love to see info. on the Japanese GT series.

rpguk: The Japanese GT series is apparently shown on Eurosport, but I haven't got cable so I haven't seen any of it. If you want to see some go to www.jgtc.net/race/movie/index_e.htm to see the JGTC promotional film which should convince you of the quality of the racing.
As for the other series such as Formula Nippon (basically Japanese F3000), and F3 etc - i haven't heard of these being shown on UK television (but i would love to be corrected!) A lot of top racers have progressed though Japanese motorsport such as Ralf Schumacher, Villeneuve and Pedro de la Rosa, so the competetion is of a good standard.
manninger: I am working on a Japanese GT profile at the moment - it is probably my favorite Japanese series and it's one of the easier ones to find information about as their website has some english content!

Large paragraphs of white text on a black background is a bad idea, apparently. A light background and dark text is much prefered to the eye. It doesnt bother me however, but you might want to look up the arguments about it, I think I read it in a help section of MS frontpage.
Site looks good though!
Banner free- great!!, but you could make some cash using banners.

Sorry, I have to agree that too much black background, sends my eyes a bit dizzy after a while.
The JGTC is shown on Motors TV, on Sky dig, and the racing is excellent to watch.
Overall the site looks good, with good navigation.

I know what you mean by the black background / white text - i'm hoping it will get broken up a bit more as I add more photos etc. I don't want to copy photos off other sites without permission so if anyone has anything suitable that may be useful then get in touch!
I will have a think about changing this and making the site more suitable for a 800x600 display, but i think my priority with the site at the moment is to work on more comprehensive content as to change the style of the site will take some time because of how I have written the site.
alan, do you have any info on banner advertising as any income would be welcome, being a student! I dont think I get enough hits at present to justify it though - the site still isn't listed on google!

Just having a quick breeze through, I have to agree on the text/background issue. A plain simple pale background (I hate pure white so I tone it down a touch) with dark text is easier to read and follow.
In the news section you could do with adding a blockquote tag into the page before the actual dates so they are taken away from the margin. The page currently looks very unbalanced with the menu, heading, etc. all centered and then the dates way off to the left. The same applies to the site history, the about J-Racing is fine though as you have quite long paragraphs filling the full width.
You might also want to consider using something other than the default font. Readibility is massively improved if you use one of the non-serif options, which one is a matter of personal taste though...

Cheers Jim, but what is a blockquote tag? I am a complete web page novice so what I have done so far is quite an achievement for me.... Also, do you feel the news page could benefit from more detail in each story, maybe 2/3 lines rather than one? I think they are maybe too much like short statments at the moment?

If it has to be on the users computer already, do you have any suggestions as to what is a clear font that everyone has on their pc - arial maybe? I may change the font soon as it is easy to do and could make the site more useable.

I wouldn't worry too much about the white on black - it's not as bad as some I've seen. Red on blue is a good (bad?) example

Where you have sufficient resolution, dark on light is easier on the human eye. Where resolution is a problem (think old green-screen type monitors) then light on dark is better, as with the opposite the background tends to drown out the text.

And yes, JGTC please. You should endeavor also to list more drivers. I know of an excellent write-up on the great Keiichi Tsuchiya (the Drift King) if you're interested.
So basically, site looks pretty good, need more content now.
