Do the Wiggle Test

All wires should be wiggled when the engine is running and see if it smootehs or worsens as you do it.

All ok when the garage has it but summat loosens up on your way home. Sends the computer off it's head.

I lost hundreds of quid not knowing that test with the Xjs the other year. In the end it was a £2.00 connection and a bit of labour to sort out.

You are not alone!!

Seems like you have the same problem as me.

I currently have a thread that seems to relate you your problem. Ignition amp is the likely culprit.

Best of luck.

I had similar running for a while and in the end it cut out completely, turned out to be the plug on the ignition amplifier. Might be worth checking, I fitted a new one as had a spare lying about and it cured the problem.

Also check the connections to the fuel pump, mine were loose / dirty causing the car to feel like it was about to stall at times. A good cleanup and slight "crimp" of the connectors to tighten them up solved the problem.

Always always always reset your ECU after changing something because of a problem. It takes 5 minutes to do (and 15 minutes to put the darn footwell back to normal)and can save you days of frustration and cost of replacing further things that arn't necessary!! I have first-hand experience of this.

Good luck!

JUst unclip it gently form its lead and leave for a good 30 sec to a minute. Then re plug in carefully as the pins are quite delicate. also i think disconnecting the battery for the same amount of time does it aswell but a slower job.
