Trip to the 'ring - Continental 'roadworthy-ness' laws

Planning a trip to the 'ring in July - in a mega-mile 205GTi

Got plenty of planning to do, but am currently thinking about the basic differences in UK and Continental 'roadworthy-ness' laws

Someone has suggested that the Germans demand 4mm of tyre tread depth - is this true?
Anyone know of any major considerations along these lines?

If I was you I would bring two spare wheels anyway (maybe with road legal slicks on?), otherwise you could be in for some expensive rescue bills!!
I don't know about there laws, but it would make sense if your going to be driving a higher speeds
