Having just quit working for one arsehole of an employer, and now hopefully going sign up with another, this contract lasting about 6 months should give me enough cash to live off for the next year.

I'm left wondering, with six months on my hands surely it's time to build up the business a little.

But what to do?

From a programmer and network engineer point of view, and one that has been essentially living a slack life just getting by, where should I be focussing my attention over the next 12 months? where's the next killer App coming from?

Some of you may be aware that I've been playing with Wireless Networks over here in Ireland for the last year, and I now have a fairly reliable backlbone stretching some 6km down the valley. It's potentially covering some 100 properties that are never going to get cable based broadband, but I am highly reluctant to bring these customers on line as an outtage like I got hen Aramiska (the BB satellite provider) folded could rally hit me incrdibly hard.

So, again, what to do, buildup a customer base on a Wireless Broadband network or keep plugging away at trying to land the odd software development project?

Common Jamie that's way too vague....

It's like me saying FIRE!

Find Incremental Revenue Everywhere.....

Aside though, it does seem that these days it's about penny chasing and I must admit creaming 0.01% of 10 million VOIP calls has got to be prefereable to three ball busting software development projects which typically leave you chasing a close as te customer constantly moves the goal posts.

In all seriousness, VOIP will / is the next big thing.
Couple that with Mobile VoIP Handsets (Wifi/Wimax handsets running over VoIP) and you've got a lovely market to get into.

Companies spend million a year on their phone bills, but have no REAL clue about VoIP migration / implementation.

WiMax will be big.. VoIP is big!
