Top Brakes - EBC Turbo groove discs and red stuff pads A++++
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
Just to share some news…..I have just upgraded my brakes to the following:
4 x Goodridge stainless brake hoses
EBC Redstuff pads all round (front DP36052c and rear DP3617)
EBC turbo groove discs all round (GD558 rear TGD216 front)
5.1 fluid
My first impression of them is very good indeed!!!
Previous to these I had standard discs all round, standard pads on the rear and EBC green stuff pads on the front.
With my standard setup I now realise that the brakes were far from good, but I thought this was the norm. With the new setup if feels superb, it bites well from cold (I had read lots about redstuff not being very good when cold) and then obviously even better when warm.
I am even thinking about stiffening up the front suspension as now when I brake I really feel the car nose dive on initial bite. Which just confirms how crap the old setup was!!
I will be doing a hillclimb event in a couple of weeks and I will ‘dig up’ this thread and add to it when I have really tested the brakes out!!
For info I have a 96 500 that has done about 60k miles (I thought it may be the callipers that were ‘tired’ but no!)
Regards,
Lig.

Hi Chaps,
Mongoose - Discs and pads all round supply only for £305 The chap who did them was selling a set in the classifieds? Give us a call if you cant find them, Goodridge hoses £45 (ebay), Dot 5.1 £20. And yes they are standard size.
Fitting around a day cost me about £180 (had some other stuff done at the same time.
GreenV8S - I had debated about sticking with standard pads for the hill climbing, but I had a lengthy chat with EBC and they told me the red pads 'should' be fine. I agree that they are probably not the best as they will be hard and will wear the discs out quicker (but I only do about 4k miles a year), but they really do bite well from cold and the most important thing is that they match my red callipers

I thought that GreenStuff were the fast road pads, and Red and Black were even harder? Maybe that's changed, though.
The video Jon is referring to I think is one of me going up Loton Park. It's my favorite hillclimb because it's such a beautiful place, and the run-off is quite generous in hillclimb terms. Well it is compared to Shelsley, Prescott etc where the road is only a few feet wider than the car in places, with solid scenery close by on both sides. I tend to be fairly aggressive at most places, but for some reason I always calm down there!

GreenV8S said:Like driveing for a mile between wdth restrictors! Can't really give it large. Have to miss that one - not that I'll be doing more than one or two. Going to Silverstone Tuscans for a laugh though.
