Hi

car just coming up to one year old today (remember must celebrate birthday with a few beers ). Anyway looking at the card given by Vauxhall when I bought the car breakdown cover ceases after one year. Anybody know any good deals? I know she wont break down but just in case I do.

start with your insurance Co. Most resell cover and if it is competitive it saves writing two cheques and remembering who you went with

Vauxhall only give your breakdown a year at a time.

If it is the same as the other vauxhalls then take it in for its annual service and they will renew it for another year

I get full AA breakdown cover with Lloyds TSB, along with a half decent travel insurance policy (among other benefits) - £15 a month for the Platinum Account - well worth it IMHO.

FULL breakdown cover (roadside, at home, flat tyres, illness) is in place for year one. When serviced the cover is automatically renewed for another year by the servicing dealer with Vauxhall. However, the breakdown cover reduces to roadside assistance and recovery not the full cover as per first year.

Just to clarify, if it is not serviced by a Vauxhall dealer you DO NOT get breakdown cover of any sort going forward. It also precludes the car/customer from 'Onward Mobility'. This is the providing of a hire car, after 24 hours, if your vehicle is off the road due to a breakdown.

The dealer pays for the cover etc on behalf of the customer. (nice guys see)

I have AA Relay which to an extent is a get you home service, although fortunately havent needed to use it yet.

I think its about £80 per year if you agree to keep renewing it. However that works ??

Seems good value anyway. I know from experience how awkward it can be to get a car home if you run into problems.
And when you dont live on the same land mass, it gets even costlier.

Just to add to this info.....You can upgrade your cover to Full as per year one for another two years, upgrade your mileage to unlimited, and have MOT test insurance for end of year 3 for £119 from any Vauxhall dealer. The conditions re servicing still stand.

Got AA cover, used them 3 times to date, once to home & twice to the garage (140 miles), they won't get you to a garage if you are less than a 1/4 from home address (used a diff co to recover to work for £50,and then get AA out again to recover the 140 mile trip to LSV so the annual membership is well worth the outlay, I think its about £135 pa.
