right..I've got my usual Hp servers with raid disks in that have always provided enough storage so far and can be backed up by one dlt tape every night.

However, space required is going through the roof so whats the next stage after bunging in bigger disks? not sure about sans etc is it just a case of getting another sever just for storage? with say getting another tb whats the best way of backing this up?

any pointers before i start researching this / talking to suppliers?

thanks

The external storage works well, dependent on requirements and what you have already

If you want large-scale storage at lower cost than SCSI then I'd consider a SATA II RAID array personally. You get even get support for RAID6 if reliability/redundancy is really critical.

I'm looking for a SATA II array myself at the moment (i.e. the case and controller without HDDs) so if anyone has any recommendations I'd be very interested. The SATA II equivalent of the SCSI Dell PowerVault 220S is what I'm looking for I think.

I would have to say SAN is the way to go if your talking multi-TB amounts of storeage all of it RAID5/6'd, expensive but.
Backing up massive amounts of data is always a pain in the rear I'm not up on the latest but DLT tape systems can probably handle the volume your talking about... other than that I can't say as I'm getting brain fade

In that case you should consider an immediate backup - do you have any suggestions for storage solutions...
