Did you notice when they raced them from a standing start the silver one was a 996TT.

I did - presumably a comparison of new and old

not a great fan of silver 996TTs either but looks worse somehow on 997TT (per the second half) aas shows up the over-fussy styling

I agree on the fussy styling. The wheels look too bling. They were put side by side at the Geneva show and the 997 GT3 is prettier car of the two in the flesh. Even the interior looks better in the GT3 with the alcantara leather. I think it is a shame that Porsche tries too hard to make the interior look upmarket when everything it is is cheap plastic. At least the old interior is basic and hence unpretentious. Just my opinion.

You can get lovely Porsche Interiors: the options list makes it easily possible. Sadly both the Germans and the Californians view of what makes a tasteful colour combination and materials go together is very, very different to us brits.

My car is black inside - with an aluminium gear lever upgrade. To some people this would unremittingly dark. To me, with a Guard's Red exterior, its classy. Each to their own, I guess.

The driving looked fun, alright.

Appreciate the guy driving the silver car is an expert but the way it blasts off the mark and then immediately goes into the left, right and then onto the skid pan is truly awesome.

I haven't seen comparible footage for a 996TT so can't judge one against the other. However, the 997 version has certainly got my attention. All I need now is someone to drop off the UK list before I blow my redundancy money on something else....

in the part where 997 turbo leaves 996 turbo for dead from standing start, I just wonder how can ca 0.5 of a second difference in 0-60 times make that 997 turbo so much faster over that tiny stretch of road in the beginning?!

Unless Porsche wants to make us believe that!

Also that huge gap between the two cars after just couple of corners?! Is 996 turbo really that slow compared to the new model over couple of bends?!

Wow. Talk about 'drive it like you stole it'.

I love the sound of turbocharged water-cooled 911s. Sitting by the side of the track at the Ring you can identify a normally aspirated 996 coming. It's got a sweeter, purer sound. A 996TT has an angrier, higher frequency thrashing that just sounds brutal. The 997TT sounds the same. Can't wait to get behind the wheel.
