de catt or catts in???

Sure this must have been done before, but advantages and disadvantaged or de-catting a 4.5 Cerb.

Want to maintain my catts for MOT time really, and wanted some feedback from people that 'have them in' or 'have them out'.

Personally I prefer de-catted, the sound is awesome and commands respect (or fear) whereever you go, you'll never see tunnels in the same light again.

When I had the de-cat pipes fitted I always said I'd go back to catted, but haven't as yet...

I agree. Had de-cats fitted not so long ago and the sound when "making progress" is just fantastic. It doesn't seem to make too much difference when you are ticking over or on half-load, but when you hit the go button...

I removed my cats initially because they only just got through an MOT on emissions and I didn't want to have to replace them.

The decats don't make much difference to the volume of noise, particularly low down, but they make the tone a little more "raspy".

It feels like the engine revs a tiny bit more freely too, but I did have my old collapsed back box replaced at the same time which might have had something to do with it...

I run with the standard back box. Decat and sports pipe can be VERY loud.

Seriously though, from the inside its quite pleasant - enough for my kids to drop off after 10 minutes driving.

I prefer de-cats and even though I only de-catted the car last year, I have removed them and replaced them with the linked version. So if anybody is after a pair of de-cat pipes let me know.

De-cat! One of my cats blocked resulting in smoke coming into the cabin around the gear stick shroud (interesting conversation piece while driving along).

cyclone - did you notice any difference changing to the linked pipes? or have you had it re-mapped since too?

Hi Toady,

Directly after fitting the linked de-cats and putting it on the rollers the car made about 5bhp more (peak) and the torque stayed the same, however the fueling characteristics had changed (possibly due to the set-up of my car with the shorter pipes?), so with a bit more mapping the car maintained it's peak power figure, but gained by 2-10lb/ft all the way up the torque curve (10lb/ft at peak) and matched or bettered the previous power curve all the way through the range.

when i went out in jonnie5's car last year, we couldnt carry out a conversation when the boot was down!lol! he has sports pipes and de-cats.

Id buy them off you cyclone, but mines a 4.2! good results btw!

Was followed up a hill by the BIB the other day and was being ever so cautious with my throttle, too much and you go to fast, lift off too much to slow down and you risk singeing his nose
