SEAC plexi-glass front plate.

I am cutting a SEAC plexi-glass front plate at the moment.
I can imagine that, when it rains, water will come behind it and damps the plate.
So how is this fitted ? Is it neccesary to seal the plate to stop leaking to the inside?

Mine is not sealed in anyway - when I wash it you can see the water get behind it and it drains away..

It's all plastic / fibre glass - so I dont see that it matters if it's sealed or not.

You've not made another SEAC have you ?

I think mine is sealed - because my number plate is fixed to the outside. Previous owner did this when he removed his personel plate from inside.

How do you get yours off Rev? cos i want to get a new plate and put it back inside.

The front was smashed so I had to renew it.
I will drive the car to the BBWF .

Just looked at the pics from 1986. Mine had no sealer then but it does now - black silicone

If you seal it then make sure it's a perfect seal otherwise condensation will be a problem. Bearing in mind it's at the sharp end of the air flow, ventilation shouldn't be a problem (to drive residual moisture out). If you achieve a perfect seal then it's probably the only part of the car that doesn't leak (at least that's what my car's like)

Thats the same as mine rev,also think tvr parts have some new old stock too

Mine's not sealed. (will have to take off plexi-glass before BBWF to clean the front up)

Dickymint, when I got the SEAC from Fernhurst they changed the plates for me from my old S which I part exchanged. When I collected the car they had fitted the plates to the outside. I think the previous ones were also on the outside but I remember asking them to remove and clean the perspex as some stuff had oozed down the inside making it look naff. At one point I thought I had a bulb failure on the offside side light and prized back the perspex, only to find it was a corroded connector block under the light pod. I them re-sealed the end with some black silcone from Halfords. I never really gave it much thought, but that car hasn't the plate behind the perpsex in at least 11 years.

Cheers for that Steve and good to hear from you again. Somebody said that Tvrcarparts has new perspex covers - in fact i'm sure Mikeb posted a photo showing a box of them in their warehouse. Gonna get one in case I brake it and fit a new plate inside.

PS. You coming to BBWF this year?

I very much doubt you will break it, just cut the silicon carefully with a sharp knife and gently lever it back. Remove all the old silicon otherwise it will steam up without a really good seal.

Having checked mine -- it's sealed with black silicone
I've got a number plate sticker that's slapped on the outside of the plastic.

Been meening to do it for a year or so. I expect the self tappers spoil it though

Hello Wim, IMO it's best to fit it without sealing because of condensation problems, even if you get it sealed completely, i think it can leak trough the light fittings. Since you tend to drive your cars anywhere in any weather ;-)
