PORSCHE 993 GT2, RHD GT2, based on a 84 911 3.3 turbo, cheap classic insurance, 3 months MOT, alarm, 911 plate, Carbon fibre parts, bucket seats with Silver backs, roll cage, conversion carried out by Paragon uk in 98, paid 30k 3 yrs ago. Bargain.
£17,500

This is on Autotrader now, although I saw it for sale a few months back. It has the same registration number - YIB 9111 - as the genuine 911 GT2 that the running reporter Richard Long had in 911 & Porsche World a few years back.

Does anyone know anything about it? Any opinions on value?

Believe it is Richards old one...which wasn't real 993 Gt2.

In terms of value......it is priced as a good 1983 3.3 turbo......you need to look at it on that basis,,,have it checked over and make sure you don't need to spend 5-10k to get it spot on. It may already be close to perfect mechanically???.

The Gt2 bits may be seen as a good thing as it may look like a 130+ grand car from a distance if you squint....some may think it a shame to ruin the original lines of a 930 Turbo......
If you like the look of it, and it checks out mechanically, then it is not badly priced when you add up what it would cost to recreate this car from a standard Turbo.

Checking out what lies under the body is the key as far as I am concerned

Thanks (and sorry for the glaring spelling mistake in my title!).

I thought it was his car but when I looked at an old issue it refers to it as a 1997 GT2 and Richard Long is at great pains to talk about it as being genuine. Was he fibbing? Seems a bit odd...

Harry Metcalfe bought similar replica few months ago that and reviewed it here.

It makes a lot of sense given the silly prices of the originals.

Spookily there's another GT2 replica on AutoTrader just as you resurrected the thread.

However, it's not terribly err, authentic......

Change the rear spoiler, and price, and you'll have quite a pretty car!

..... The dealer has a bit of a rep though IIRC!

Well, they had to take the roof off a turbo on the production line to fit the roll cage...guess this seller could say they didn't bother welding it back on again.

I'm very intrigued about how you make a 993 from an 84 911.

I used to work on Richard's cars when he brought them onto the mainland from the IoW for servicing and the like; his SY 996 GT3 R was a bit of a monster in 2001-3; the GT2 rep would have been around 1998?

Not spoken to him for 8 yrs or so but have his number somewhere if it helps??

By bodging it,makeing up fillets on top of the inner wings,it still then only just abouts look some where near, and drives nothing like!

The car has had quite a bit of work done to it. Ie it has a fully intergated roll cage, gt2 evo kit and fenders etc. It has all the 930 running gear and suspension etc. It was well done, built by Paragon Porsche but upon stripping its silver paint it appears to have had some racing livery underneath as well as racing welds ie antennas air jack fittings etc. It sadly needs some work.
