Hi all,
Im currently looking at a few Cerberas with the hope of purchasing one within the next month.
I'd appreciate some help deciding on whether to buy a 4.2 or a 4.5 model.
Im looking to spend between £25,000 - £30,000.
As soon as I buy the car, I want to get a sports exhaust and de-cat as im in love with the sound of a de-catted cerbera. Does the 4.2 sound as good as the 4.5 or is it not noticeable? If I get the above, would the car need re-mapping or tuning?
If so, any advice on good companies in the south east who do this work?
Any advice or help would be very helpful.

Hi Steve,
If you go for the 4.5 you'll get more pops and bangs with decat compared to the 4.2. This is when you lift off the Gas and when the revs start to drop. Mine's a 4.5 decat with sport zorts, bloody loud but awesome and great fun!
To be fair I think you'll have fun which even you go for 4.2 or 4.5, you'll get a slightly younger 4.2 than 4.5 for your money thouogh. Go see a few and buy what colour combo you like rather than blump for the bigger engine cc.

Service history would be a good start, it's important that it is serviced every 6,000 miles and/or yearly. Seeing history is good, looking at old invoices and what has been done, a good sign it's been looked after.

If i was a novice, like I was 2 years ago, and looking to spend this sort of money then I'd invest in one of the top guys to have a look at the car before I committed to buy it. They'll do a survey and look for all the tell tail signs of potential problems. Think I've seen adverts for this in the TVR club mag!
I just jumped in a bought the second car I saw knowing very little about cerbs, but knowing enough about cars to be safe. Turned out to be very lucky and bought a good one but could have bought a pup!!

Personally I think the 4.2 at full pelt sounds better than the 4.5, de-catted or not, and I've owned both, still currently own my 4.5.
You will not really need a remap for a de-cat, however you'll see no performance gain. If you go for the linked de-cats you will see a gain in HP, and a remap will release a bit more.

To be perfectly honest i don't know!!
Have been toying with the idea for weeks and when the starter motor went and i knew the car would be off road for a week i decided to go for it. The garage i use has a long history dealing with TVR's so im sure they have chosen wisely.
Will only have the car for a few more months so i thought lets go the whole hog and have the full monty experience on the aural pleasure of the AJP. Hopefully get the car in the next day or 2!! I can't wait!

Im gonna pop round and speak to him before I buy mine as I feel its worth getting as much info as possible before I buy.
I might even go to the Santa Pod day ive seen which is in April. I wll get a chance to meet lots of owners and check out lots or cars and different exhaust set ups.

However I can assure you that if you go for a 4.2 you won't be dissapointed, it's awesome. I did 6,000 miles in no time at all.
I fitted race pipes (cat-back) and the sound track makes me smile every time I go out in it. When i first put them on I couldn't believe the crackles and pops it made. I remember the first time I backed off the gas at around a 100mph and heard it crack and pop, I just started laughing like a little kid.
Which ever you go for make sure go for one.

I saw Castle TVR have a nice Blue 4.2 for £25,995 so will check it out on Saturday. If anyone has any advice or history on the car or history with Castles that would be great!
