Morning folks,

I remember seeing an ad in one of the specialist car mags (think it was GTPP) for a car storage firm in west London where they had CCTV cameras on the parking bays so you can view your car online. Being a paranoid fool I thought this would be quite handy for when I go o/seas for a month and need to put the car in storage.

But can I find the ad? Not a chance - does anyone know who this firm is?

Cheers!

If you are referring to the ones off Ken Church Street then they were for sale at £100k - £200k per space:

www.primelocation.com/uk-property-for-sale/browse/all/uk/england/london/west_london/kensington/jdwj_KCS040821/

I am sure that some have been purchased by investors and are therefore available on short lets - worth getting in touch with the agents.

I can already hear the standard screams of horror from non-Londoners following this post... "... but you can buy 2 x 997 TTs for that money...". Yes, you can. And yes, it's expensive. So if you think it's outrageous then don't come and live here!

Thanks WRN. Yes I feel that £100k for one month's storage is a little steep but I do want to make sure the car is safe while I'm away.

Do you think they take Amex?

doh must remember to disable irony key on this pc...

Haven't found the car park I first mentioned that allowed you to view your car over a web browser but am still looking. In the meantime there are plenty of decent places that offer good security, just no webcam facility. If I do track it down I'll post details!

Cheers

I think you're referring to Hurlingham Garages 0207 731 8696 www.letting-offices-london.com, which is a secure underground car park on Putney Hill !!

They seem well priced but just not a great location for me. I did think it would be more than that though.
You can always put them in NCP's(long periods of time) but they dont guarantee you a space and you dont know whos parking next to you which is more my worry.

It isn't the one I was thinking of but it isn't a bad option for central London (it's just behind Pentonville Prison if any escapees need a quick motor to evade police).

The one I had seen the ad for was a bit closer in than Putney I think - sort of Fulham way. Let me keep digging and I'll let you know what I come up with!

Apparently, there is a car storage facility behind what used to be Cheyne BMW on Parsons Green, I've never managed to find it myself but a colleague of mine used to keep his 996 there.......

To be honest im not sure if i need secure parking in central london for when the waterloo and city line goes down or at home in richmond where my car will stay if i end up taking the underground all the way in.

Im def not paying for two.

have a look in the back of octane as there are lots of storage advertisers in there for the whole of the country. some offer pick up and delivery services so while they are not in london it may still work for you.

cheers,

ben.

I've normally got a couple of spare spots in dry secure covered storage, about 1hr west of the smoke, with cover & battery conditioner etc etc & delivery & collection are no probs.

my garage has a lock and a security light and I will look after your car for free. you will need to leave the keys though, just in case of emergency

Ah gee Softie - that's awful sweet of you. For free and everything? You're amazing. Perhaps I'll leave you both sets of keys and the V5 just in case!

can't believe it took 16 posts for someone to offer...... :

Anyway back to the topic I had a look at the one in Islington this afternoon but it is in the car park of a dodgy estate. Given that everything in London seems to ring-fenced space in what is otherwise a public carpark I think I might be looking out of town for this now. There are a few places just outside the M25 that are only a 30 minute train ride away (got to think of getting back ) and are specialised car storage facilities (ie a big shed).

So the search continues.
Dr Loony.
