Hi Chaps,

Has anyone passed an MOT (emmissions) with a CAT griff running a green tune resistor??

I ask because it is MOT time and I have been running a green TR for the last 10 months and dont know if I should switch back??

If I dont get a difinitive response then I will risk it and take the white TR with me and do it on the job!

Thanks,
Lig.

Given how youve found it a great improvement, and that its a very easy swap over anyway,i think it would be great to see if it goes through ok first with the non cat resistorCome to that, what am i saying-mine went through ok!!
When i first had my engine mods done, and V8D set the cat up to run the Lucas ecu,it had the non cat resistor. They had altered the Afm and timing to suit though, but considering the cams overlap etc they had to.

Hi Mongoose,

It was V8D that fitted mine and they set up the AFM and throttle pot, timing etc.
are you saying that yours was standard (apart from the cam) with the Green TR and it passed its MOT? Did you have your Llambas disconnected - not that this should really matter?

Cheers
Lig.

Hi Chris, the car had cam, inlet manifold, tumpets and plenum modded also.It passed the emmisions with the green resistor and i think the lambdas were disconnected at this time. The reason i remember was because i still didnt have my Omex fitted, and it impressed me a lot that the Lucas could still cope with all the mods, given that it hadn't been re-mapped at all.

A tip for MOT time which worked on the Pre Cat V8s ( not tried it on the Griff but I guess it would work) I removed the bypass pipe between the stepper motor valve and the plenum side of the airflow meter. Then I made a new piece of pipe with a valve to the open air ( I used an old drain tap from a radiator) If the MOT man thinks the CO is a bit high, discreetly open the valve a bit and let in some more un-metered air, that leans things up nicely. When you have the ticket put the old pipe back because It doesn’t go very well with the mod.

Hi David,

You can't leave it there......was it due to the 'hot cats' that made it catch fire??

do tell.....as I was advised this, but it was a very slim chance...and it hasnt yet after about 10 months.

Cheers,
Lig.

Firstly, cheers for the chat the other day David.

Secondly, just to finish a thread.....had the MOT today and there is no way at all it would pass the emissions test with the green TR, it was way off the scale, so just had to plug in the white TR and reconnect the llamdas, reset the ECU and hey presto well within the limits!

So for anyone running the green TR - remember to switch to the white TR before your test.

happy motoring...

Good to hear you got it through Chris.Sound like its all in the afm set up then if your running the green one.At least it's not difficult for you to swap over for mot time

That was lucky, leaving lambda sensors disconncted will eventually knacker them.

Lambda sensors are very vulnerable to contamination and need to be kept in the right temperature range to keep them clean (just like plugs, but more so).

If the plugs are disconnected they are unheated so they will spend more time outside their operating range. If they're disconnected because you're running open loop the mixture is likely to wonder further which can increase the contamination too.
