Hi all, quick query. I currently have Dial up with BT at home, and have had for many years. I am looking to go Broardband, and am looking at Tesco's service as it looks economical for someone on a tight budget (mature student, huge mortgage, kids, etc),
Does this mean I would automatically lose my 'xxxx@btinternet.com' e mail address? I have had this addy for years, and I really dont want to finish up with a 'myname1254@whatever.com' addy.

Any advice?

I don't think BT delete the email addresses but switch you to their online portal so you can still get email addresses from there.

However, you won't be able to use it as your main Outlooky email adress - this will come from Tesco.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

cant you set outlook to poll any mail server? Mine currently downloads e mail from a couple of ISP's (BT and Diamond.net) with no problems.

You won't be able to *send* mail through BT's servers as you'll not be on their network. You will still be able to get outlook (or whatever) to *recieve* your mail from them though.
You can keep your BT mail address in the "From address" field in outlook, but the outgoing mail server will need to be changed to the Tescos one.

Some ISP's require you to dial up at least once every X days though, otherwise they'll class the account as not used and disable it, or charge you for the priveledge of keeping it.

I know one situation where they have to connect using the BT dial-up account at least once every three months, otherwise the email account gets put on hold. Email activity alone isn't enough to stop the account being suspended. Without knowing exactly what kind of account you've got I don't know if it will apply to you though.
