3.2 Carrera auto revving on start-up idle.

When starting up my newish - to me - '89 Carrera, the motor revs fluctuate up and down between 800 & 2000 rpm, for about 30 seconds. Then it settles down to an 900 rpm idle.
Is this normal or is it an air-flow sensor problem. There is also a minor slow running issue, in that after the over run, on gently opening the throttle the motor struggles to bring the power in smoothly. On full chat all is fine.
Just wondered if the two were connected.
Any similar experiences out there???

My brother has a 3.2 and he had exactly the problem that you're describing in that the engine was 'hunting' on cold starts.

He had a new air flow meter fitted and this cured the problem!
