I quite like this photo, although Im not entirely happy with it. Id really appreciate some feedback, positive as well as negative. I found the beetle in a forest in Romania.

do you have the exif data for that? i only ask because the focus is an extremely crisp line across the photo and i think that maybe that distracts from the pic as a whole.

Macro doesnt give you that much DOF, especialy if you cant stop down because of the light.

IMO the focus is on the front body section not the head , should have focused on its'face' I think.

I think you're right, if you can call it a face.

As a novice at this stuff, why is the foreground blurred, as well as the background...?

From one novice to another ... I found macro mode has a very shallow depth of field, which makes getting the focus right quite tricky, as most of it will be out of focus. I gather the same is true for cameras which can take macro lenses.

I only 30 seconds to shoot. My squad was taking heavy fire from a watermill operator with verbal dioreah. I was the third out of the 4 of us to break free from his onslaught, and when Lyn (who was last) finallly escaped his clutches, we pretty much ran for our lives, leaving the bug behind.

Blimey! (fnarr!)

Ah, that explains it... hadn't realised that

Still, one less stupid question to ask!
