Grimy air filter!

How grimy is this?



For a car with full service history - is this what condition you would expect to normally see an air filter in?

(edited to say) nice new K&n one fitted from ACT now, along with the smooth bore induction system. improvement in amazing - but I do wonder if the biggest difference is a clean air filter versus a dirty one.

Air filters can get very dirty very quickly, especially if they are low to the ground. My daliy hack gets through air filters every 6k miles or so. Its amazing how much cr*p can be sucked up. Think of it as a high performance hoover!

Dont forget they are oiled too, so any road dust will stick to it and make it look well smeggy

Is the K&N one a straight fit into the Griff's air-box? Rich...

Yes - the K&N filter is a direct replacement, fits well.

Resurrecting this thread... how easy is it to get replace the air-filter with the K&N item? I've heard it's a bit of a struggle to get the air-box out? Grizzly was serviced last week but I plan to do a Waxoyle and other stuff over Easter and thought I might replace the air filter with one of Tim's K&N jobbies? Good plan? Rich...
p.s. Even though I have only driven 60 miles since the service the sponge one is already black should it be replaced during the service or simply cleaned and re-oiled?

Air filter should be replaced at service rich.The K&N one should be easy enough to fit.You dont need to remove the housing to fit,unless you want to silicone seal it to the housing,personally i never bother with this.I clean and oil my filter at 6 months,and its surprising how crapped up it gets.
