last ditch effort - c# & email?
Discussion
I have written an app that communicates via email - it's a legacy requirement so I have to stick with it.
The business code is fine, and I can hook into Office 2003 Outlook, but it (Outlook) pops up dialog boxes to allow access to contacts and the inbox for checking the mail, it pops up another box to say something's trying to send an email when I need to send on an email. This is fine whilst I'm developing the code, but for deployment I need it to have no user action, until problem tracing or debugging starts.
Outlook 2000 doesn't do this, but the all-mighty IS department says it is no longer a supported version so cannot exist on any machine on the corporate domain. I can get round this and use 2000 on the server, but as I don't have 2000 on my machine I can only develop against 2003!
I have tried using the SMTP server that comes with IIS, but that need to forward, and they won't allow the main exchange server to receive emails from the IIS SMPT virtual server... same goes for the POP3 side of things - they refuse to deliver!
So... Anybody know how I can send and receive emails with direct communication to the exchange server in C#? Or C/C++? Hell, even in VB? I'll wrap it up if I have to, I just need to get this automated.
I really hate Microsoft and their forcing users into pressing buttons to try and prevent viruses, but not allowing anybody to override it incase it's a virus overriding it!
