I have started looking at a griffith as my only car, live in London, work at canary wharf so no need for a sensible car as it will be only used on the weekends.

Was looking into an old 911, but thought the griffith has more character and growl than that could ever have. I have had a quick look and can't find a buyers guide so here goes:

Do they mind being kept out in the street all the time and not garaged?
What on average would the running costs be for a year (barring the dipping into a rainy day fund for major work)?
Whats the model to go for? Start small and work up to a 500?
Does anyone have one as an only car? How do you cope?
Am I completely insane for thinking of doing this?

Si - good choice

I use a Griff as my only car and so long as you take care to keep it in good condition you shouldn't have any problems. You will need to keep on top of it and ensure you get a water tight one, see another thread in this forum, but it shouldn't be any big deal. There are times when I think I might have to get a run around car, but I've resisted that temptation so far.

You'll want to make sure the alarm and imobilizer are all working I guess and you'll have to pay more for your insurance with the car not being garaged. If you have the 911 reliablity mindset you might have to adjust your horizons as although the Griff is pretty good w.r.t. reliability for a TVR it's no Porsche.

My advice is to buy the latest TVR you can afford that you know to be a loved one, if that's a 500 so much the better.

Running costs likely to be dependant on how good the car is in the first place.
