Anyone else tempted by the MG SV?

Wellllllllll, maybe.
True, it may not be the best stylistic work that Mr Stevens has ever managed, but it does have a certain bestial presence.
The noise when they started it up on TG was pretty awesome too.
I'll wait till I see the more regular road going versions before I make a final judgement.
Either way, I proudly confess to a big slice of admiration for what MGR has done so far. The new MG saloons are all pretty good. The V8 RWD ZTs are said to be wonderful (if a little late coming to the market) and they've had some really encouraging results in all the motorsport arenas they've entered too. (what odds will someone give me against a top 3 finish for Le Mans this year?)
Even the MGF with it's new steel suspension and 160bhp makes a decent fist of being a sports car now (No, really it does - think of it as a cheaper Elise!)
Now we've got a new small car to be built in India (don't laugh, it's a sound move) a potential tie up in Poland (another good move) and the deal with the Chinese (excellent news)
This gives MGR the capacity to build nearly 1m vehicles worldwide, plus massive global engineering resources without compromising integrity.
All this + a new V8 supercar in just a few years shouldn't be sniffed at.

It does have a certain Skyline / Touring car look to it, although I think "bestial presence" covers it far better.
Its not a pretty car, but it certainly looks the part of a mad and bad V8 coupe.
Its suprisingly cheap for the performance, and from hearing one on Top Gear, and seeing the pics in a recent edition of Autocar, its definitely growing on me - but I thought the Qvale Mangusta looked better.
It seems that the huge rear wing is optional, and not fitted to the cooking model, without it, Im sure the aesthestics would improve tremendously.
The styling may not be to everyones tastes, but I sure as hell approve of MGR making this sort of car, its the halo model the range needs. Now bring on the V8 75's... :drool:
Then again, as the odds of me being able to afford one of these beasts in the forseeable future is somewhere around zero, im sure my opinion is of little import in the grand scheme of things.

I saw the car first as the 'X90' and thought it looked minging!, but then i went to the motorshow and was on the MG stand for about an hour! that car is just amazing, i dont think any photographs make it look particularly good, but its got such prescence,you hav to see it in real lf, I really cant wait to see it on the roads.
Saw it at the NEC & was not impressed. Shoddy work Mr. Stevens!
Having previously owned a 1976 MG 1.5 twin carb spitfire midget, I am a fan of MG's. I like the love of the MGZR but again I feel that these MG's still lack any great deal of power. They look nice, always handle well but I really want to see something from them that can be affordable yet pacey. My Pug pretty much keeps up with the 160ZR so if it the MG you are talking about has any great advantages then I would be interested, so yeah!
Not overly impressed by the look of it, as been said before, the banzai(sp?) power has/is been(ing) done in form of the Skyline, very well to boot.
A full blown Q car, ala M5 and AMG I like the idea of, but a bolt on max power rover 220 coupe on steroids is not what I'd spend £75K
on.
