Lifted the head rest on my car the other day and the patch of leather on the top of the seat below it is filthy with years of ingrained dirt. My normal leather cleaner won't touch it and nor will white spirit - any ideas how to clean it ?

Saddle soap. Get it from any horsey/farm/outdoors/saddlery shop.

I used saddle soap on my Chim seats for 3 years and no probs what-so-ever.
(Not that they got THAT dirty, but jeans and biscuit leather don't mix well)

OK, just read some horror stories re. saddle soap so thought I'd check - are there recommended versions of it ?

My old chim had a magnolia leather finish and it was so dirty and minging nothing would touch it until I tried some Oxy-clean stuff the wife got from the local pound shop. Shit or bust I thought, so I covered the seats in it and gently worked it in with a soft tooth brush. The result was amazing. It brought all the crap out and after I had wiped it all off the leather looked like new with no adverse effects to the colour. I then finshed the job with a liberal dose of leather conditioner. For a quid it is deffo worth a go.

Try Methylated spirits, it cleans all the old muck of but hasn't damaged the leather on mine. Just put a conditioner on straight after.

Soufriere, man where did you get that name , to much time in the Island of the Caribbean , or just from making bad smells ?.Just i know a nice place with that name.
Gliptone leather is good cleaner and conditioner about £12 for the 2 bottles.
