GT3 Mk1 Tyres and Geometry
Discussion
Hello,
was wondering if anyone here can help me out with the above.
I'm posting from Malaysia, and since there are only 4 Mk.1 GT3s running around here, there's not much info I can get.
The car came on Michelin Pilot Sport Cups, but since I'll be using the car to "commute" to Singapore a fair bit, I was thinking of sticking on some "proper" road tyres. The driver's handbook (Oh my, love the introduction!) says it came on Pirellis, but does anyone have experience with that and/or any other tyres and reccommend some?
Also, the previous owner of the car had it set up for the PS Cups, and so it's currently on -1.5 degrees front and -2.3 degrees rear camber. Can anyone help me out with a setup for use with road tyres, or should I continue using those numbers?
Damn, I wish there was a Porsche independent workshop here with Parr/JZMechtech's level of competence.
Thank you.
Oh, could someone here also help me out with the typical lifespan of Michelin PS Cups? Shelf life and how many KM/Miles they can take? Thanks.

Cups will wear pretty quickly, particularly with the geometry settings that you have. Expect to get no more than 2 - 3000 road miles or less on track. Also, cups are lethal in the wet.
If you want Pirellis then I think the PZero Rosso's are a pretty good tyre, very progressive and generally good all round road grip. Pirelli also do a Corsa in either a road tyre or a track tyre compound and tread pattern.
Standard factory settings for the GT3 are according to the factory manual -1.5 degrees for the rear and -1 degree for the front.
Hope this helps.

My MK1 GT3 was set up at Manthey in Germany and they keep the exact setting as secret as a cook keeps his receipe secret, but for road use the camber on your car seems high. I also don't see the point of Pilot Sport Cups unless you do lots of track days. For less extreme driving, Michelin Pilot Sports are fine. Good luck
If you are commuting across the Straits, I don't recommend using the Cups. When it rains (as it does from 2-230pm on most days
) the Cups will be dangerous for normal road use... and let's remember that "raining" in Johore is not the same as the drizzle we get here... it's positively torrential! Save the Cups for days at Sepang...
