Just recently (I’m talking in the last two days) my Chim has developed a high-frequency vibration through the steering wheel, usually when turning the wheel past 90 degrees, at car-park speeds. The vibration is only slight, but audible as a faint humming. Am I right to suspect the wheel bearings, and if so, should I start saving my pocket money?

Cheers, Ed.

First of all, have you got power steering? If you have check the level in the power steering fluid resoviour it sounds like you pump humming to me.
It may have got a little air in the system if it's low.
To bleed the system just jack the front wheels up and start the engine and then slowly turn the wheel lock to lock a few times.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Paul.

Just given it a thorough run - the binding in the steering seemed to disappear after about half an hour. Could the source also be the universal joint, or is it a bit more obvious when this goes?
