Hey all!

Youll be pleased to hear that the 400 is running fine, but i was spotted last week (which is always good) but there was a comment that mine was a litte smokey....ive had my dad follow me, and its only when i stomp on the loud pedal and only a puff (not a continious plume!) which is not enough for me to see in my mirror!!

Just wondering, is this right?? I think she may be running a little rich as it does smell quite fuelly, but as with all this stuff, its hard to tell if thats 'Just the way they are'

All comments greatly appreciated!

Only a puff of smoke? You're not trying hard enough! There should be 4-foot flames for god's sake!

Matt -

My car has smoked a bit under heavy acceleration (though it isn't continuous - I think) since I've had it; 2 1/2 years. It does not seem to overly use oil. Wedgers following me have said it isn't anything to be alarmed about, though some commented when I first got the car.

Tas (Tasmania) suggested to me it might be a blocked oil pressure escape or overflow thingy - I'm sorry I'm not that mechanically savvy as a lot of the chaps on here - or whatever it was. Anyway I had things cleaned out, and it seemed to reduce it a bit though it still does it. It also altered the oil pressure readings I get, but it all runs fine.

Maybe you can look up Tasmania on his profile and ask his advice - he is really rather knowledgeable on engines!

One outside possibility is brake fluid being leaked from the master cylinder through the vacuum reservoir and into the plenum. It gives a characteristic blue plume even when the engine is warm. If you pull the vacuum pipe off the plenum and see oil in there that'll give it away.

Well apparently not!!! LOL!

Its not lots of smoke, but i do recon its probably over fuelling. It does smell quite rich which, so i guess a rolling road whould be a good call...

Anyone in the south fancy a days wedge dynoing??
