Yes I think much fun could be had, setting one off in a pub for example........ but I wonder if they're any good in a crash, I could think of instances when I wonder if it would be a bonus or not? such as sliding down a road, would an inflated vest cause you to roll/bounce more than slide?...

Great if you ride into the canal! Not so great if your doing a ton and it decides to go off! instant parachute. Probably some Euro MP will latch onto this and try and make it a legal requirement.
Question: If you bounce instead of slide, is that safer?
If it goes off that quick, will it collapse your lungs?
