I have noticed that the steering on the Chim is slowly but surely getting stiffer. She's a 93L 4.0 with no power steering. She's not so bad at normal road speed but at slower speeds there is quite a bit of resistance.

Any ideas gang? Please tell me it's something nice and simple!

Edited coz i carnt spell.

Might sound silly - but have you checked your front tyres lately?

Yep, all four sets of rubber at correct pressure. Round slow corners the steering does not, or is reluctant to self right in either direction. Almost like it's sticking.

Anyone who knows me will tell you Im not mechanically minded - but I do know the steering rack can give up the ghost after a few years.

Might be worth checking out.

Will check it out

Still hoping it can be sorted with a drop of nipple grease. You can't beat a drop of nipple grease you know

There are two uv joints on the steering, the one to look at is near the bulkhead, take off the front wheel and you can't miss it, give it a good clean with wd, oil and then grease up. I have read on here if you don't keep your eye on this it can seize up and your wheels won't self correct after conering.
After greasing it up you can cover it with rubber with a couple of tie-raps to keep the weather off it.
When the front wheel is off you can also do the same to the other one.
Just done mine and the steering is a lot lighter.

Paul.

Nice one Paul, many thanks for that. Will dig the spanners and lube out in the morning.
