I always use a main dealer, as to test the car they have to drive it into and out of the workshop. Do you really want some saturday boy in greasy overalls to jump in your maser and spin the engine over before the checks have finished, scrap the paint work on a four post lift, attack everything in sight with a monkey wrench and 5lb hammer only to tell you it failed and you need to bring it back the following weekend so all his mates can check it out?
Okay that might be worst case, but with main dealers I have found that small things like handbrake adjustment etc tends to get remedied during the test and consequently it passes first time.
Just noticed your in essex, get Glenn at lancasters to book it in at least you know it will be given due care
