Smooth Running

Fixed the vibration in the 400SX - the last straw was when i joined the motorway the other day and I couldn't tell if the white cars in the rear view mirror were the old bill or not - becacuse the mirror was all over the place!

Turned out that the rear propshaft flange bolts were all loose.

Incidentally you A-framer's out there - how do you jack up the rear quickly in the garage? That u-channel at the back seems a bit vulnerable so I was thinking of making a wood and metal packing piece for the trolley jack. But also the exhaust is too low to get it under - it's the sigle pipe style that exits on the right - I might put some small wood 'ramps' on the garage floor to get a couple more inches clearance.

I had the same thing on my 400 with all four propshaft bolts being lose.

I have cut a piece of wood that sits in the U channel, makes it more stable on the jack. I take it with me for my MOT's too so that they dont support the car on the diff whilst checking the rear.

Cheaper than a rebuilt diff. , but how did they get loose - not possible if nylocs used?

I've always used the triangulation points on the chassis either side of the diff. nose (not the diff. carrier)and then used axle stands under the U channel at the back of the diff.

Yeah there are nylocs on there, the ny just doesn't seem to loc very well!

They probably get shaken loose a bit with 430 bhp going through them...

All the same, it's unusual to have them loosen after a mere 11000 miles - from new.
