Insurance claim...
Discussion
Ever wondered why your insurance is so steep and the insurers are going bust? I may have stumbled across a clue ...
About a month ago I stupidly managed to spin the Chim into a parked car. Too heavy with the right foot on crappy surfaced, wet road on a corner. Real school boy error. Fortunately I wasn't going fast, probably about 25-30mph as I had just pulling away from some traffic lights.
The "only" damage to the car was bodywork. The GRP around and under the offside headlight was trashed and the passenger door was damaged too (beauty of spinning) and the windscreen was cracked. No mechanical damage; car still driveable, radiator fine, chassis fine, suspension fine, all lights still working, even the passenger electric window was okay.
Just spoke to the repair shop. They are planning on charging my insurer £9,000.
That is one third of the new value of the car and well over 50% of what it was worth before the crash. Much more and it would have been a write off. All for some GRP work??? I know we're in the realm of TVR prices here, but I would have thought half that amount was still toppy.
Seems to me a typical case of the insurer getting shafted, which means you and me shafted in the long term.
p.s. I apologise to you lot for contributing to your ever rising premiums.

cutmonster ... we'll see. I don't want to delay the repair unduly, and ultimately it's for the insurer and the repairer to sort out the bill, not me. However, unless I hear some compelling arguements from the repair shop, I'm certainly minded to have a word with the insurer and warn them. Doubt it'll make any difference though. Chance of speaking to anyone at the insurer who has a brain cell is minimal.
