C16 vs imports
Discussion
I'm currently looking at a C98 996TT.
Currently has an OPC warranty and has been serviced by OPCs here in the UK. The spec it has makes it a UK car in terms of the lux pack, plus it has PCM etc.
What, if any, is the hit against trade values in this country? Initial investigations suggest around a £3K hit on value.
Has anyone experience of this, rather than guesswork?

from memory c98 is a cyprus car........check it is total uk spec...i would be suprised myself.....as in every detail.......these cars are easy to buy.......but you can seriously limit your options when it comes to selling the car, every excuse will be used to knock you down.....this just the way it is.......depends if you are keeping the car for a long while.....when the car is say 10 years old assuming it has full opc history, it will not be such a problem...but then UK, c16 & c98 cars will all have had experienced more depreciation...cars are judged more on individual merits rather than a number out of a dealers price book......For the potential hasle involved I would look out for a UK car....there are enough of them available...good luck.
Unfortunately...when it comes to re sale...even if it is specced above standard Uk it doesn't make much difference.....I lucked out selling an import privately ....that was a C16 and ended back up on the forecourt of an OPC when the new owner moved on...With the number of cars around, i don't think dealers are going to be interested in non c16 or Uk cars, when they are not exactly rare.
You seem to have your heart set on the car, so go for it and enjoy it

Was in a similar position a few months ago.
Understand C98 = RHD non country specific car. The one i saw was a Cypriot car - understand a company in London imported quite a few from Cyprus around 2002/03. You should be able to tell the country of origin by googling the original supplier printed/stamped within the maintenance booklet.
Problem as far as i was concerned was that there was nothing to state the car was a UK spec car (C16 in porsche speak). Need to consider;
1. From my perspective = safety items
2. From an insurance perspective = whether the alarm/immobiliser is thatcham rated etc etc etc.
I was also informed that you would need a certificate stating that all taxes had been paid (you need to retain them for 7 years i think) and he couldn’t supply this. The more i thought about the more i felt uncomfortable about spending this sort of money and taking this risk.
I hesitated on this car as i thought it would be hard to; a. resell, b. more difficult to insure. Having said that the bloke managed to sell it two days later so maybe not everybody is as picky as me.
Something else to consider spoke to an OPC who said they would have no issues continuing to extend the warranty despite the C98 issue. However, when i then phoned the sales dept and said i wanted to trade in my '02 Boxster for a Cayman they gave me a reasonable price. i then mentioned the C98 point and they choked and reduced the trade in price by 15%-20% +
No real conclusions here – just a few things to think about. Suspect it will only add to the uncertainty, which would require a substantial discount to offset …..

I've had a Danish Boxster S
A Swedish C4
A UK C16 Boxster S
A C98 GT3.
It has never made any difference to the final re-sale price, because they all come out of the same factory with the same specification. Porsche do not make bad cars for any market.
Same underseal. Same bodywork guarantee. Same extendable warranty. Same insurability --- I have also seen them all for sale secondhand in OPC's ---
As I recall --- the 996 C16 spec amounted to leather, tinted screen, rear wiper. For the 997, they deleted the rear wiper and now charge it as an extra. Wow.

Can i be ignorant and ask you know if you buy a used car and the owner went to germany to buy it but had it C16 spec and the car was first registered in UK.
is that classed as a same type of import rather than buying car from OPC in uk when new., i know they all come from same place, but would this type of cr be valued less went sold again thanks

Sold my C16 Boxster S that I bought new in Germany to a dealer in the UK. He wasn't bothered that I'd bought it in Germany. It was a UK car that I basically collected in Germany. The cars in the UK OPCs are imports from Germany aswell.

The car would only be valued less if still under manufacturers original warranty (so under 3 years old) and was to be traded into an OPC. As stated above all cars are made in the same factory so technically they're all imports.
All this personal import bullshit was started by the UK importers as they were losing sales.
A personal import 98 C2 will be worth the same as a UK supplied 98 C2 (asuming condition, milage, no. of owners, blah, blah is the same).
