Tuscan Purchase - Can you help?

Can you help.

I have just sold a P reg Chimeara and pretty much intend to replace it with a very late model that I can keep spending £18 to £20K to get a really good example.

However looking through the ads on Pistonheads and similar, Tuscans are appearing in this price range. However there seem to be frequent references to engine mods and rebuilds etc. Could you help me with a couple of things;

At my budget am I in dream territory of acquiring a decent Tuscan?
If not, what sort of things do I need to ensure have been done?

Good choice for your next Tiv, that's what I did.

Can I suggest you go over and read some of the threads on the six-speed forum, and in turn this one as well.

There is a mine of information that will please and horrify you.

You really must work out your yearly budget to see if you can afford to keep a Tuscan happy.

Do you intend to buy private or forecourt, if you buy forecourt you will probably get a warranty thrown in, Nice to have that piece of mind with your first Tuscan.

Have a read as suggested and come back if you have any specifics.

I did the same thing a year ago & honestly can say was best thing I could have done the difference in the 2 cars is staggering.(Covered 3 times more miles in 12 months than in 2 years of Chimaera ownership) I see your in the North West if you need any more convincing & your not too far from Warrington let me know i'll take you for a spin & convince you.

I did the same (Chim - Tuscan) and at first was put off by the talk of engine rebuilds etc. However having read the speed six forum, I decided that part of my search criteria was to find a car that had had a 2004 onwards rebuild. Some people would disagreee with this, however I've just had my car serviced (24k) and the garage commented what good condition the engine was in.

Good luck with the search - you won't regret buying a Tuscan!

Yep, me too. Went from a Chim 450 to a Tuscan 2. I decided to get a new un because of the 3 year warranty.

I think TVR Power have got a 2001 Tuscan for sale for under £20,000. They are owned by TVR and the guys at Power are ace so it should be a gud un. www.tvrpower.co.uk

Hope I'm not breaking any protocol with this post, but just thought you might like to know that my Tuscan is in the dealers right now being MOT'd and prepped ready for sale. It's a 2003 with a very genuine reason for sale. With a bit of arm twisting I might be willing to let it go for £20k, you can email me offline through my profile if it's of any interest.

Sincere thanks for these responses that are an excellent starting point.

In evrything except cars I am thorough but tend to let my heart rule my head - particularly with TVRs. I am determined to prepare properly this time and this is an excellent start.

Prepare all you like but once you drive one your hooked! (If the car is not quite the right colour or spec you want DO NOT DRIVE IT! or you may part with cash & think later). Drive only the ones you are totally happy with (colour) etc.

Prepare all you like but once you drive one your hooked! (If the car is not quite the right colour or spec you want DO NOT DRIVE IT! or you may part with cash & think later). Drive only the ones you are totally happy with (colour) etc.
