Can anyone tell me how to upgrade the brakes on my 1995 Chimarea 400 to 500 spec.
I want to fit the bigger front discs, vented rear discs from the Griffith/chimeara 500.
i know the discs and pads are off the shelf items and I have these already but need to source calipers.
Questions are:
1-do the 500 calipers fit straight onto the 400 uprights? I understand the front discs are larger diamter but the rear discs are the same diameter but vented, is this correct?
2-Is the master cylinder the same diameter or do you need to change that as well?
3-Where do I source the 500 calipers?
4-Are the brake hoses the same as I intend to fit aeroquip anyway?

Hubs, master cylinders are all the same,go for Goodridge braided lines.
Don't bother with the 500 upgrade, there are far better aftermarket kits available in the UK,do a search,or i'm sure some one will come along shortly and recommend.

Thanks, can you tell me if the brake line kit is the same, they have banjo's on one end and male ends on the other?

Just taken the discs and front calipers off my 500 to fit AP upgrade. If you want them you can have the old calipers for nothing, nothing wrong with them BTW.

Rear brakes do not fit as the hub/upright is also different with a different bracket spacing.

283mm discs from 2wd Sierra Cosworth with front calipers from the 4wd Sierra Cosworth. This bolts straight onto the Std Sierra hubs. All parts available from good motor factors. Ring round you may be suprised how cheap it all is.

I just bought a 283mm kit from Tower View, it uses the existing caliper spaced out on an aluminium bracket.

basicly it just bolts on with a bit of fiddling and only costs £300 plus the dreaded.

And while you're at it, I would recommend fitting braided brake hoses also. I recently changed my pads over to the EBC Redstuff (Ceramic) and I would definately recommend them. People sometimes reported that the "old" redstuff pads were more suited to track use and were not good from cold. This is not the case with the new Redstuff pads (labelled Ceramic, though they are not ceramic).
