Cerbera prospect

I'm finding myself strangely attracted to a car I've seen advertised at McCarthy Cars in Croydon. Its a 96 Cerb reg no.P776 MLE. Looks nice and un messed with apart from spiders, which I don't think were around in '96, and what appear to be Sagaris style mirror extensions. I'm thinking these early Cerbs might qualify for cheap classic insurance, and make an interesting addition to the fleet (Currently have a Griff 430BV) Does anyone on here know this car, or can tell me whether these early Cerbs are a good buy? I really don't like the later ones with 18' wheels and Tuscan style lights.

They are 16" Spiders rather than the 18's.

Don't know the car I'm afraid so can't be of any help there.

All cerbs are a good buy

The 0 miles and 0 previous owners might just be an oversight but condition and history is everything with a cerb.

Got to be worth a look - but leave your heart at home on the first visit!!

My main concern would be that McCarthy cars sell all and sundry, the ad states "Rare Factory Option Power Steering" but this is just and example of their limited knowledge as, as far as I know, power steering was standard on all Cerbs (waits to be shot down in flames for incorrect information). It may be a genuine car but (and it might be the cynic in me here) cars that get traded into such places always scream to me that someone wanted a quick and easy out and it might therefore have underlying issues; I would treat buying from somewhere without specialist knowledge the same as if it were a private sale, a full and thorough inspection from someone who knows their Cerbs would therefore be advised. Yes it comes with a warranty (third-party) but I bet it is the same one that comes with all their "standard" cars that they sell and could be virtually worthless for a TVR when you get down to the smallprint.

If it were me I would probably buy privately (E3D's above for example) ideally from a known PH'er and save the dealer margin.

Smart enough looking in the photo's, as already said not sure there might be beter bargains to be had in the classifieds here tbh, 15k for a 96P plate 4.2 is too heavy for me .

Agree with all other comments. E3D has given me some good advice in the limited time i have had my Cerb, which says to me his car will have been well looked after...

Thanks guys. Yes I had wondered how a car such as this has ended up at McCarthy's as its not their usual fare. If I remember correctly, power steering and air con were (expensive) options to start with when they should really have been standard, but I don't know how common it is to find an early car with both fitted.

I think they were originally options when you ordered the car (1993, 94, 95), but in 96 when they came to make them, power steering was fitted to them all. Air con remained an option.
