Toying with the idea of replacing my 19" regular TFT (it's got a glass front which looked great new but it's a bugger to keep clean) with a 23" or so widescreen job.

What's the cop with these, are they fine for gaming and internet use or does everything just looked stretched out ? if so do you then have to switch from say 16:9 to 4:3 ?

I know they'd be great for watching 2.35:1 DVDs but it's primarily for the above.

One the desktop you run a widescreen res, like 2336x11something so everything is still square but theres more of it at the sides Not sure about how games work as they dont usually support weird res's (at least older ones dont).

I've had a widescreen laptop for the last 6 months and I really struggle to use a 4:3 monitor now for normal work. It's nice to have the space to have 2 windows open side by side and being able to actually use them both. I think ideally I would want 2 screens, one 16:9 and one 4:3, but witha choice of one I'd pick a widescreen every time. Any games I've tried to play have worked fine with the screen resolution (1650x1000 I think). The oldest one I've tried is Operation Flashpoint, which I guess is 5 years old or so.

In short, if you're thinking of replacing your screen I'd get a widescreen.

I run 20" widescreen, the aspect ratio in games is fine, they just run at 1680x1050
