Calling all you Dads

And before i start, just to reassure you all (in particular the ladies 
) that i haven't suddenly created a family or inherited one 
.
It's just that i may have to ferry a friends sister and her little baby of 8 months around every now and then. She already has a babyseat and just wondered if any babyseat will go in the back of a Cerbera OK.

Most 8 months olds will still be in rear facing I think as most of the forward facing seats are from 9 months onwards. If still in a rear facing seat then it will definitely fit the front seat only with Mother in the back 
for now. Having said that it is more accurately based on weight than age so if quite well developed (child not mother) then they could go in a forward facing seat from now as pretty close to the change over.
The most commonly suggested forward facing seat that will fit in the rear is the Recaro Start, a lot won't fit that well due to the short seat squab, however it is quite pricey new £180 and from that age you will also need the impact protection cushion which is another £40 quid or so. Other seats have been known to fit but as far as I know only usually with the optional metal bar that was bolted to the floor and the seat squab extender which gave a flatter and more secure base for a greater number of seats.
Doing this myself at the moment, going down to Mothercare this afternoon to try a few others cheaper seats out before blowing the cash on the Start so will update if anything else comes up.

Keep an eye on the classifieds for a second hand Start TC, get one for not a lot more than the cheaper seats new (that probably wont fit properly, and if Mothercare are anything like the bloke at Halfruads, he really didnt want to sell me a seat as it didnt fit in the back safely/properly. Annoying but he was right, I hate to say). Its what I did

Cheers Nick, funnily enough I was keeping half an eye on ebay as well over the last week, they kept going for nearly £100 and at that price I though I would probably just buy new for the peace of mind. However just 15 minutes after my last post look what I got for £62 plus postage.

Hoorah.... (albeit it is a slightly gaudy colour compared to the nice all black ones that went for more money)
Anyway, happy enough with it at that price and it saves me a trip to the muppet show this afternoon.

As has been said it is a bit of extra support for little ones, clips overlegs and belt goes around the front, looks a bit like medieval torture but I guess it makes it safer.

Just spotted another seat on ebay with a buy it now of only £60 if anyone is looking. Even gaudier in colour than my one though. Annoying actually as, if I had spotted it in time it is quite close to me so I could have collected it and saved on the postage

Ted, as you're selling the cerb, is your Start up for grabs?
Maybe. We were just going to keep for the next car as as we paid full whack for it and I didn't think we'd get a decent price second hand.

Good point sir! Or come up with some excuse along the lines of washing my hair, car not working, ice on roads, petrol gone up, etc etc
