Do you agree that pedestrians should be forced to have insurance to cross the road? Makes sense to me after all they're dangerous!

Don't be ridiculous.

Us drivers should merely have cart blanche to hit them once they step in to the road.

I worked in Los Angeles for a few months a while back. It was only after a few weeks I was there and one of my friends saw me cross the road he shouted at me, and asked what I was playing at. The then explained what 'jaywalking' meant and the consequences and I used the crossing ever since!

It is refreshing to have the common sense rule sometimes that the road belongs to the car, and the pavement to the pedestrian.

I know in this country it is not always possible due to the number of crossings etc, but I realised how the attitude was so different, the *responsibility* of the pedestrian and the importance of crossing the road properly seems to have been lost over the last decade.

Did they not consider making 'Jaywalking'an offence in England back in the 70's.

Significance of traffic lights only applies to vehicles and cycles but not to pedestrians who more often than not shoot their light "Wait". Only restriction that is placed on them IIRC is failing to conform to direction given by PC and not to dilly dally at a Pedestrian Crossing.

I realise Ole Slackjaw Gordy doesn't hang on my every typed word on PH but I suggested pedcams a long while ago, together with chavcams in council homes to extract fines from benefits and endorse videoshop loan cards when parenting skills fell below acceptable levels. Although it was (partly) a joke I realise it would be seen as elitist and kinda fascist, but didn't care then and still don't

Its pigging annoying when there is a crossing only a few yards away (which, obviously, at that point you need to divert some attention to) and you get some moron would-be roadkill launch themselves into your path rather than strain themselves to take the extra few steps to the crossing.

I regularly jaywalk now in Norwich. They had a feckwitted student in the council somewhere decide to have some new style pedestrian crossings installed at odds with all the others.

Can't be bothered to figure out which green man I'm supposed to be looking at now

could the reason that we cant introduce jaywalking is because the avarage road in america is the size of yorkshire and walking accross could take days so its easyer to catch people doing it where as here if you cross the road you can be across it the blink of an eye.

Just imagine it we'd have gatso's that watch the pavements at junctions waiting for the next offender to croos the road!

Insurance for padestrians would be another problem when it comes to policing it, would you get towed away if you didnt have insurance?
