BMW off Road School
Discussion
I was lucky enough to be bought a weekend here for this coming Sunday and Monday, - www.worldofbmw.com/content/offRoadSkills.asp?article=252 - I can't wait.
Anyone on here done it before? Any hints and tips for the weekend?
I have never ridden off road before, so should be interesting! I have been warned I will fall off for the first time this weekend!

Carrera 2 - DO IT!
Got back from the wettest weekend they have had in 6 years of running the BMW school, on Monday evening, and still feeling the pain in the bruises and aching muscles. Fell off twice on Sunday and at least 10 times on Sunday. One spectacular 50 mph crash onto rocks!
However I have never seen so many happy blokes on any motorbike day, or any other weekend doing anything to be honest.
Absolutely superb. The instructors were excellent, mechanics excellent (I lost a brake lever, back break pedal, gear lever - all replaced immediately), and the whole stup very professional. There is no "babying" here, they treat you as adults, and still at the end of the second day they are teaching you to do things, and you are looking at each other as if to say "are you sure?!".
Also some really useful lessons for on the road as well, to do with balance, leaning, locking front wheel up and saving the fall etc etc.
All in all a top weekend, and I am going looking at dirtbikes this weekend, along with a few other guys I met this weekend from London......... I feel a new expensive hobby coming on.
If anyone wants any details then PM me or post on here. I would recommend it to anyone.

You can go back to the home page for the details, but was approx £350.
Best advice I can give:-
1) Don't try to be the big man and go on the 1200 GS - stick to the F650's. Trust me after picking them up for two days you will appreciate it. Also on the terrain, the guys on the 650's all had more fun, were quicker and could do more.
2) Stay in the Cooper Inn - across the road from the Abercrave Inn - bit cheaper and does a better breakfast.
3) Do not ride there, you will regret it for the journey back. Drive if possible.
4) When they ask for experience, providing you are a competent road rider, hold your hand up as "have off-road experience" - you will look a dick for first hour - but will have more fun for the rest of the two days.
5) Wear Goretex and take the lining out - no matter how cold it is. You will get hot.
6) Don't drink too much the night before - you will fall off more than anyone else (learned from experience!)
7) You will enjoy, but be prepared to fall off!
PS - There were all sorts there, and all very friendly - from BMW owners(!), to sports bike nuts, to havn't ridden in years. Everyone enjoyed, and everyone was converted and will be joining TRF and looking for those rare green lanes!

Ive done something similar with yamaha out in the welsh hills near bala.
much cheaper (£160?) and the bikes are more scrambler than off roader, with a open option to change from 125, 250 to 450cc
Geraint Jones? 'scrambler' = enduro, I think. I believe they use WRs for their school.
