Looking at maybe getting one of these ... fancy the less obvious looks than the later models .... and the 0-60 in 5 seconds!
So ... aside from the usual old car bits .. what should I be looking at?
Any problems say with parts availability? Whats insurance like? And are they a practical everyday car?

the Evo3 is generally considered to be the best of the early Evo's (often thought to be better than all up to the 6.5) due to still having the light weight of the earlier shape but a more developed motor than the 1 & 2, so if you can find/afford one of those you may be better off.
Evo 1's and 2's are still very popular in the club race/rally scene here and seem to always do well though, still very quick machines.
p.s. - be aware that doing 5 second 0-60 runs in pretty much any of the rally-rep 4x4 turbonutter cars requires a significant lack of mechanical sympathy - basically wind up the revs and drop the clutch, so if you plan on doing this too often you may want to factor in gearbox/clutch/CV replacement costs as well as purchase, insurance, thirstiness etc.

There is a company in the west midlands I believe that have a black evo 1 GSR, pushing 280bhp - looks awesome, you can link to it through a company called creditplus.co.uk its on there vehicle list.

The MLR Buyers guide is an excellent read. There are plenty of other things to have a search on with the MLR forum as well.
One thing to go searching for on there is the word 'Crankwalk' as this is more common in earlier Evos and unchecked is going to have you looking for a replacement engine. The symptoms can be similar to a sticking clutch pedal, but basically is the crank moving across the engine.
I think the Evo is a pretty practical car, albeit at the cost of consumables! Servicing is pretty often and the running costs can be high to some. There are some specialist insurers for the Evo, Parts a plenty and not just from Mitsubishi - quite a few breakers about.
