Test drive accidents
Discussion
Saw something funny this weekend I wanted to share.
I was buying a new crash helmet with my mate at a bike dealership. Just as we were leaving we heard this motorbike at big revs then a really loud smash!!
What had happened was that a lad had been sizing up a new trials bike and had been revving it (for whatever reason), but then for reasons known only to him, he dumped the clutch. The bike had thrown him off, climbed about 5 feet in the air and landed on the back of a Laguna. It smashed the rear window, broke the rear lights and the footrest scored the side of the car as it fell to the ground revving it's nuts off.
The owner turned out to be one of those blokes who is just naturally a nasty bastard. Needless to say, it really kicked off when the bloke who'd been hanging on to the bike told the bloke that he shouldn't have been parked on a double yellow. I have no idea who'll finish up paying for that little lot (I reconed about £3k of damage).
Just getting into my car, this other bloke sidles up to ask what had happened. He thought that the lad on the bike had tried to ride over the car?? Bit ambitious for someone who looked like they'd never sat on a bike before.
Anyway, anyone else with any test drive accidents worthy of mention?

My sisters ex dumped a 911 upside down in a field, couldn't have happened to a nicer tosser. Laughed till I thought my pods were going to explode when she told me he was in hospital and that he had no insurance. Was even closer to requiring surgery when I found out it was owned by a local 'thug' who ran a company specialising in 'crowd control specialists'.
Not mine, and again not really a test but my boss' fiance is an importer in London. Guy comes in and buys a 911 straight off - no haggling, no looking around - straight in and away - for about 200 yards, straight into a tree past a roundabout. Doh!
Gets better though, he walked back to the garage and bought another 911!!!!!(Apparantly he needed it for a party that night) (there is too much money in London I believe)

Years ago in TVR Sprint, someone went to Scotland to test drive a Mk2 Grantura, anyway during the test drive the bonnet lifted, not a problem at speed but as he slowed down on an uneven track it went vertical, then detached itself and he ran over it!
From memory he still bought the car but knocked the owner down for the damaged bonnet!!!
davidy
PS I had the misfortune of crashing a car that I had just sold, I was driving it to the new owner and due to poor judgement, speed, went road, inexperience I ended up running into the back of an off-duty copper.

An Ultima (non)customer managed to write off the factory demo car, an Omega, Lamp Post and Road Sign in a 300yd strip of destruction and devastation.
Luckly no one seriously hurt, well, except for the insurance underwriter.
Funny, now the factory are not keen on customers driving their cars.

Last time i was a team proactive they had an orangy dealer demo Tamora in for some surgery, then there was that other demo tamora that rolled, and i believe there was also a Tuscan on demo that spun backwards into on comming traffic which i think resulted in people being air lifted to hospital (ouch)
i also remember a picture of a dodge viper upside down in a field after being driven about 500 yards..
not a test drive but Rowan Atkinson parked an 80's Aston Zagato on its roof after driving it about 1/2 a mile... i'ce seen the photos of that he was very lucky ...

julianhj said: I remember hearing about SGT Lotus having their first Elise Mk.2 demonstrator trashed by a customer within a few hours of delivery...
Yep because I was supposed to drive it on the Monday!
Arrived Thursday, PDi/clean etc for Saturday, £5000 of damage by 4pm.
Ace!
On the Rowan Atkinson bit he also trashed his McLaren by driving "under" a metro.
