Anyone have an opinion on whether it's worthwhile upgrading the standard discs to (say) grooved (normal size i.e. on standard 964 C2 calipers)

Personal opinion:

If you're not going for standard discs then i'd suggest drilled rather than grooved.

Basically, grooved discs eat pads. They do get rid of gas when the pads get really hot but so do drilled discs if they are vented. But drilled discs don't eat pads like grooved discs do.

Just my 2 penneth...

I notice you`re "soon to be" with the greatest of respesct you should try Porsche stock brakes - they`re pretty good!
Most modifications gain in some area`s but trade of in other`s
(Big reds front and back - so a bit hypocritical)

In five odd years of driving a 'Standard' C4 on track, I never felt it necessary to upgrade the brakes. Provided I warmed them up and let them cool with a slowing down lap, I never had fade or warp problems. Stick with the standard ones.

Errr,

Yeah - as regards my comment below, take note:
I have no need to upgrade my Porsche standard brakes either, but i have 13.1" big reds front and rear.

Amongst the best "STANDARD" brakes in the world i'd say...

I would watch out for drilled disks! They can crack easily under prolonged trck use. I would go for slotted ones.

Sure, they crack, but don't worry until the cracks join up!!
