Autofocus problem with Nikon D70S
Discussion
I have a relatively new D70s which is not behaving and refusing to shoot when the trigger is pressed in autofocus mode, with two different lenses. I get an error r07 which, from what I've read on the Net, is related to the number of shots which can be buffered, however I suspect not. A reset failed to cure the problem. Any thoughts ?
On manual focus, all is well and camera behaves normally.
Thanks in advance.

r0? is just telling you how many more shots can be taken in a burst.
The autofocus thing is more likely due to user (you) rather than a defect.
Try setting it to manual focus and see if it still does it. If not then its unlikely to be a fault. If your trying to focus on something that has little contrast then with some lenses the AF struggles badly.
Try it outside in daylight pointing at the garden or something, still not doing it properly then you have a problem.
Could also be dur to having the focus area and focusing type set wrong.
In the top display there is a set of 5 little rectangles and one should be highlighted, this is where toe focus is taken in the frame. You can move it around or turn it off. Doing so can radically change the focusing dynamic of the camera.

Thanks for all the replies.
I've have word back from Nikon and they're saying it has to go back for repair. The r07 message only appears with AF mode on, and the trigger will not activate the shutter in this mode. Set it to manual focus, and the r07 does not appear and the trigger activates the shutter. I'd never seen the r0x message before, so it does seem to be a little too conincedental.
Thank you all again, and time to do battle with Nikon UK.

the r07 message is not (as far as i am aware) an error message. my D70 says r09 every time i half press the shutter release (even in maual focus mode).
the only time that the camera doesnt allow me to take a pic in autofocus mode is if it cannot find enough contrast to focus on.
as someone else has said: does it do it all the time, or only when the lens cap is on, or when it is pointed at a blank wall with no contrast?
only other thing that i can think of is to ask what lens you have on it? are they compatable ones with the camera?
hope this helps

Not that this will fix it, but assuming the problem is that the autofocus can't lock on a subject, you could confirm or deny this by putting the camera into AF-C mode and see if you can then take pics.
If you can, it would tend to suggest the camera can't lock in AF-S mode - if you can't then that ain't it.
Either way doesn't fix your problem though!
