I use CreditSafe to do a check on financials but I am disappointed that they very rarely record turnover in their published data. So I thought I would download the accounts from Companies House...
...problem is they only list the Annual Return as available for download which is next to useless for me. Any ideas on how to find out a companies turnover?

If they have on annual accounts registered at companies house (which you can download if they are there!), then I would the compnay concerned for a set of management accounts for the last 12 months, if they can't comply with that then I wouldn't offer them credit!!

God I'm useless at this

I've located the abbreviated accounts for the year ending 12/2004 at Companies House. Forget I asked.

Interesting. Companies House have managed to lose 2 sets of my accounts and therefore we are in the unfortunate position of having a terrible credit rating. I have been trying to sort this out for 9 months now and only yesterday had to send a courier with the 3rd set to make sure of a signature.

My point being - don't take their info as gospel either.

Abbreviated accounts are unlikely to show turnover as they are generally just a balance sheet summary.

With a bit of juggling you can make a reasonable estimate of the t/o, using the Debtors, Creditors figures and taking industry standard payment ters into account, these obviously vary from industry to industry but you can get a turnover range figure. If they are crap at collecting debts then they aren't gong to pay you on time either.

If you are still not happy then either don't offer them credit or ask for management accounts
