Best suspension setup for a 993

Hey guys,

Any one out there that has improved the suspension on there 993?

I know I want to lower it some, and stiffen it up. Not sure if I want to go all the way to fully adjustable remote resivor setup though. Any sugestions for a starting point.

I also heard some where on here thatsome geometry changes like camber ect.. really improve the 993 handeling. Any input on this?

I fitted Bilstein HDs, great improvement over the OEM shocks. These are not adjustable after fitting but can be adjusted during fitting. Had the front lowered by 10mm while they were being fitted.

I can second that for Bilstein HD's. If you have original shocks on your 993 you will be startled at the improvement.

A proper alignment is a must.

Bilstein Pss9's are the next step but pricier. They give you adjustability which is probably not required for street use.

Another Bilstein HD user, also with H&R springs. An excellent package if bought from Carnewal because of their prices.

Went for the Roock kit, basically Bilstein shocks + HR springs, together with Monoball mounts the car handles beautifully compared to the knackered old suspension it had.

stiffer bushings mounts are also key, you'll notice rear end is much more composed.

How does the ride compare to the original set up? What size rims are you running?

Anyone got comparative costs of the two options? It looks like:

1) Replacement Bilstein HD dampers, appropriate springs and expert setup / tracking
2) PSS9 kit install, expert setup / tracking

Given that I'm unlikely to be skilled enough to make the most of fully adjustable suspension - or at least, not likely to adjust it that often on the car myself - either option is going to be adequate for me.

I'm suspecting here that option 1 is not just a simple job of swapping the dampers - presumably the springs may need changing (if ride height wants altering, or the 10 year old originals are tired) and I'd guess that the setup cost is a significant proportion of fitting, no?

I need to renew the suspension on my 993 (1994, still running on original kit 12 years on!) but I don't want to spend 3 grand on fancy adjustable gear that I'll probably adjust twice a year, I'd much rather get non-adjustable dampers set up properly by a proper expert. I'm sure I could be a true genius at ruining my 993's handling, given enough user adjustability

If both options cost more or less the same, factoring in all the initial setup / installation etc. then I'd prefer to go for the best quality kit i.e. that which will last the longest / perform at its optimum for longest.

Anyone here know the answer for me?

Hello Guys whats your general consensus on the KW Coilovers for the 993's ? We sell them at work, but i have not had the chance to sample a 993 with them fitted as yet, but im seriouslly considering purchasing a set as the build quailty and ride in other vechicles seems very refined. Has anyone got them Fitted ? i would be interested in any feedback. Thankyou
