Ordered a new intel mac mini on Mon (20th). Changed the spec slightly so it would take a bit longer to ship, fair enough. Shipping date expected by today (23rd), delivered by 30th. Given the generous allowances and from general feedback from others, expected it to be here maybe Tomorrow or monday...

Checked email tonight expecting to see my order shipped. Instead I find an email stating that there is high demand, and that it could ship as late as 13th april, latest arriving 24th april! Thats an extra three weeks! I am not a happy bunny. Harrumph.

Unfortunately, it's the one area they've never sorted. Any significant upgrade of major hardware (computers and iPod variants) always releases huge pent-up demand. More so if you order the top spec.
They really like to make a global launch, but then find the US soaks up the initial production. The further away you are from there, the longer it takes for stock to be available. It's rarely production glitches (it's several years since the disaster when Motorola couldn't yield enough of the latest processor at the new speeds).

So it's wise to add a month to the promised shipping date (even the one indicated on the order). At least then you stand a chance of being pleasantly surprised. It's just a pity they don't do it themselves, or at least be a bit less specific, at least with new launches.
