Roughly where is the squeak coming from, what type of Mini is your car and is the wheel turned or not.

Not saying that I can answer your question but with a bit more info someone might be able to.

Is it when you let the clutch out? (especially when cold?)

I have had a few BMW minis now, and i think i know what the problem could be (fixable under warranty):

1. Noise when pulling away, sounded like a squeek / rub kind of noise from front somewhere. This was actually something to do with suspension or subframe mount being loose from what i remember.

2. Dodgy boot catch, makes a sound if not closed property

3. Rubbing sound when at full lock, oil type not correct in differential something or other

sorry i am not very technical!

oh and another problem i had was with a squeeking supercharger tensioner - that had to be fixed twice!

i am not sure if this helps in any way but it's not when it's really cold/frosty and the window is trying to close back onto the seals..? ours does that..?! and also when the missus drives the seatbelt mounting seems to make a slightly squeaky sound..?

I've had the same noise problem on my works cooper s for the last 12 months.Only happens when cold and when you let the clutch out. Bmw conveniently can't hear the noise so could not fix anything under warranty, now it's out of warranty i bet they will soon find the problem.Has anyone ever got to the bottom this issue and sorted out the annoying squeal?

What type of squeal is it? Does it sound a bit like a wooden chair being pulled across a lino floor? Mine did that, did a bit of research and it is (apparently) the clutch release bearing drying up a little. From what I read, people had just carried on using the car with the noise. There was also one person who had it repaired by MINI for the exact same noise to return 2 weeks later!

I cured mine by having a new clutch fitted while my engine was out.

My works does this sometimes, usually when i've been stuck in traffic for a while and I go to pull away - I'm thinking clutch release bearing - as its massively difficult to replicate I really cant be bothered trying to get BMW to sort it right now - if it becomes worse / happens all the time then I will.

I think I have the same problem. Took it to an BMW & Mini specialist and was told that it was the clutch but it was a 5-6 hr job. The squeel is not that bad so I would keep using it until you need a new clutch coz it is going to cost a few quid.

I had this exact same problem, squeaking noise when pulling away for the first time, worse on cold days. BMW replaced the clutch and flywheel under warranty, apparently it was caused by the clutch plate hitting the flywheel at a slight angle.

Nail. Head.

Mine did it, explained to senior service technician and consequently had a new clutch fitted. This was several months ago, yesterday the noise came back, luckily my cars under warranty but I really don't want to be buying a new clutch every couple of months when it does expire.

defo something to do with the clutch isn't it, think you've all confirmed my suspicions. Just out of warranty now so BMW will not want to know. I can live with it cos it's the girlfriends car and she's not bothered, when she hears a rattle or squeak she just turns the radio up louder.(typical womans attitude). cheers for the replies.

Its the clutch skimming the fly wheel.

110%

You can have it replaced but it is just as likely to do it again.

Some do it , Some dont. BMW know its a fault but cant admit it because they dont have a 'fix' so to speak.

If they manage to find fault now the car is out of warranty i would push hard for it foc as you reported the fault while it was under warranty. The dealer will have the history on record.
