It works well. Be prepared for lots of smoke the first time you get the exhaust hot, and be prepared to replace the wrap every couple of years (it goes quite fragile after it has been cooked).

I have been told to be careful that the heat is not then transferred to another part of the exhaust near GRP. Also cats run very hot and rapping it does not help and can cause damage.
One more consideration is that it can trap and hold moisture which then means premature corrosion.
You will need about 50ft if you just do the manifolds if its 2 inch.

If anyone wants some of this wrap I have it unopened together with metal fasteners and silver spray. Bought it with good intentions but have lost interest in doing the job.
Drop me an email and I'm sure we can agree a deal. As you may have guessed I'm in Shropshire.

Can the exhaust wrapping be done with engine and manifolds in place...I have often thought about doing this.

Instead of using exhaust wrap, I suggest you remove your exhaust manifolds and the Y piece and get them ceramic coated. The results are amazing! I know of two places that do it. Try a search on either Camcoat or Zircotec. Cost is about £250 - £300 but it effectively reduces under bonnet temperatures by up to 100 deg c!!

You can buy Cermachrome from Demon Tweaks and do the job yourself, means removing the manifolds though.

85 is fine, fans normally come in around 90. My oil pressure is normally 45 on a run and 28 to 30 idling.

I don't know, magic I suppose! Can only go off the readings from the infra-red thermometer thingy that was being used to measure temperature.

Fo technical explanations suggest you ask the boffins that do it.

Simple really, never sit with no fans running. Strap an adjustable thermostat to the outlet hose of the rad, if it rises, you are stopped, fans come on.

You can on a Griff, using a selection of poking tools made from wire coat hangers. The Chim can't be that different.

30 foot of 2" will do the two collectors end to end.
Does it look good ? Not really

The main reason I put it on was to take the heat away from the bulk head and alternator.
You need some way of fixing it, I've used lockwire.
TIP: Damp it before wrapping it, it will stretch and fit better.
TIP2: May be cheaper HERE

Don't suppose that you have any pictorial evidence of this suggestion 'ma learned friend'. I am interested from both a heat reduction and an aestetic perspective.

Don't the ceramic coating guys normally recommend it for new manifolds only?

I wrapped the system on a kit car couple of years ago and was advised that doing so would transfer heat downstream.

Replaced the rubber exhaust hangers with springs to be on the safe side.
