Uh Oh, I've been sucked in. Burriana you bugger...
Discussion
After having seem Burrianas lovely 930 Carrera on Sunday, I've been thinking of what I can replace my lovely Golf with.
I've decided that I'll keep the Golf as a daily driver, and I can get something for the weekend
I think I've now fallen in love with the idea of a 911, or a 930 depending on cash.
I've worked out that in a year or so I should be able to have about 7/8k in cash to play with, after wage rises and bonuses.
Question is chaps and chapeses, what do you think I should go for: I've no idea about 911's apart from the FAQ I've just read here.
Can you fill me in on what I should get for a man on a relatively small budget?
Many Tas
Neil

www.911virgin.com (I was recommended by a collegue) has a VERY nice 968 Club Sport in there...
I am raising the budget slightly now to about 10k, and am considering asking the F-I-L if he wants to help invest in the thing - my collegeue recommended spending as much as possible in the first place.
Anyone got any furthur comments on the 968CS - is it all its cracked up to be?

Neil - for that money you may get a decent late 70s 911 3.0 SC. You won't get anywhere near a decent 3.2 Carrera I'm afraid. And certainly not a 930 (Turbo).
Best bet would be to find a mint late 944 or, if you can a 944 Turbo. They are supposed to be the hidden jewel in the Porsche crown
Thanks for the kind words on the car mate - if you make it to the next V.Max you are welcome to take the wheel, now that I've seen just what you can do with that Golf of yours!

I'm talking to a collegue who is friendly with Henry @ 911virgin, and he has already been filling me in on the pitfalls of buying a 911.
Here's how I see it panning out - I'm to target saving as much as possible for one year, keeping the Golf as my daily driver.
I'll see what I end up with after a year of burning the midnight oil, and look about.
I see it going one or two ways:
Either a nice 944 S2, a nice 968CS (thats my favourite so far), or look for a 911.
I've brought some mags, and am learning about all the differences - it's a nightmare! Hopefully like the geek I am, I shall digest all the ins and out of 911 trivia, and will start to ask/bore everyone with questions.
So far I've gleaned that the 3.0SC or 3.2 Carrera at around 12k is the start of tidy examples - so I may start my Porsche obsession off with a reasonably prices 944/968 rather than buy a dog of a 911 and be stung with a bills afterwards.
This really is yanking my chain at the moment

Al, I would love to take up your offer of a fling in your lovely Carrera - it'd be the death toll for my bank balance though - I think I'll probably never look back! You would be more than welcome to nick my keys and be a hooligan in my Golf
Additionally, I look forward to seeing it properly at the Excusetogetdrunkhoon

No probs. If we end up sticking with the Brackley location, then there's a very nice dual carriageway for you to at least have a passenger ride up and down ... oh, and did I mention that Porsche Silverstone is at one end of i?t

And I was thinking it was sacrilidge to mimic a 3.2 Clubsport or 2.7RS without doing anything to improve the power/weight ratio.
Does look good though....no offence meant, just a silly internet opinion from a Porsche anorak
I know what you mean, but as the Carrera stripe (as opposed to the Carrera CS script which doesn't have a stripe) was a factory option and I have seen Fuchs in all manner of colours, I didn't think I was doing anything that wasn't available as an option when the car was first built.
However, the handling has been improved a little and I have a sneaking suspicion that the power to weight ratio is certainly more than it came out the factory with
