Call me Unlucky Alf or what !

Just spent the whole morning cleaning the car up and decided to go for a quick trip into town before the footy started.
Went through a green light at a junction and BANG, I drove straight into the side of a Golf GTI.

The other driver had jumped the red light on the other side of the junction and I hit him side-on as he tried to speed through.

Front end of the Cerbera exploded, the bonnet landed about 20 feet away, the radiator was mashed and there was oil all over the road. The wings of the car were also damaged, fibre glass was everywhere.

Thankfully no-one was hurt !

Couldn't move the Cerbera and it was blocking the main road in Maidenhead, they had the police turn up and then the fire brigade... what a polava !

Lucky for me a nice young lady who witnessed the crash hung around and gave the police a statement. The police then formally cautioned the other driver for careless driving.

The bugger of it was, the other driver was a squaddie based in Germany and all his details etc were in German, ah well, I'll have to leave all that to the insurance companies.

Anyone had any experiencing of crashing and repairing Cerberas? Do you think they will write it off or try and fix it?

Bugger !

NB - Well done to the plod that turned up, they were very helpful and handled the situation well.... and then they even offered to give me a lift home!

Good work fellas !

Shit. That's bad news. The number of times I've had near misses with bastards late running red lights is ridiculous. Worse still lots have been at high speed 50 or 60MPH junctions. F**king annoying.

I feel for you. Hope it works out okay. Best if they write it off I think, but it depends on how much damage its taken. I've heard though that TVRs are come out better after repairs then most cars that have seen a big hit.

What a shit thing to happen. On faster junctions I tend to look for the barstewards as I approach, precisely because of the near misses I've had with such morons.

In my experience the more independent witnesses the better. Did you get a statement from the car behind you confirming you drove through on green?

On second thoughts, the police cautioning/charging the other driver should put you in the clear?

Sorry to hear about your accident, Bandit. I can't offer any sensible advice, but I can offer my sympathies and a sweeping gesture involving two fingers to the driver who jumped the red.

Glad you're not hurt, anyway. It could all have been a lot worse. Cerbies can be replaced, limbs and lives can't.

I actually had he sun in my eyes as I went through the lights so didn't see him coming... the lights were definitly green though for me, which meant they were red for him. Unfortunatly there were no cars behind me to back my story up.

I'm hoping the witness statement will be enough for the guy to admit responsibility.... but at the same time if he does admit it then he will get in trouble with the police for wreckless driving.

hmmm, will find out more on Monday.

Thanks for all the votes of sympathy, its much appreciated !

Ouch! Sounds nasty, but if the police have cautioned the other driver then it looks ok for your claim.

From what you have said and from local knowledge, were you by any chance travelling South past the Railway Station on the new dual carriageway at the Junction of Kings Street where the Bell Public House is?
There is a high wall at that junction masking the view from both directions!

It may pay you to see if there is any CCTV coverage from any of the businesses at that junction. The local authority CCTV based in Windsor, may also have something captured on the Golf drivers red light.

Just a thought

madcop,

Thats exactly where I was, but I was coming across the A308 from the Bell Pub direction when I was broadsided.

I thought about the CCTV, the police rang in to ask about it, but it was pointing at the Station at the time of the accident.

Because of the way the lights are staggered between the Bell pub and where I was hit there is no way that the lights were anything but green when I went through them (unless I'd jumped three sets of red lights).

The police on the scene also got the witness statement who said the the other guys lights were red when he went through them (which should be compelling enough I hope).

What a day !

Bandit, good luck with the whole thing... Lousy news, I hope the witness statement is enough and the other driver doesn't try to wiggle his way out of his guilt.

Keep us updated!

Bad Luck but at least you walked away which is the main thing. There has been a litle girl killed and her baby sister seriously injured by someone who jumped a red light not far from here. Maybe its time all traffic lights were fitted with cameras. Then it could be said that cameras were being used for Road Safety!

Commiserations Bandit. What an absolute bu@@er!

This seems to be becoming one of the most common near-miss situations I see on the roads. Don't suppose you saw a phone glued to his/her ear? Sometimes it isn't a near miss and you're both lucky to walk away. There seems to be an increasing lack of driver discipline and some very poorly designed/signalled junctions at the root of all this.

I would vote for the Party that included a Gatso repurposing commitment in their manifesto so that 'revenue-generator Gatsos' could be redeployed to major T-L junctions to catch red-jumpers. The fine for entering the junction on a red should be severe. I think this would be a great way to reduce accidents.

Hope you're back on the road soon.

You have my every sympathy. I had my Cerb on a flatbed on the way to get the clutch changed. I was at the Castle Hill roundabout when my mate called to say there was a blue cerb in bits by the station.

One consolation (all be it small) had I been going to my normal dealer we'd have virtually been in convoy (two cerbs on recovery vehicles back to back aint gonna do too much for residuals).

Yep, that was me. Should have seen the number of people that were around, people coming out of the pubs and businesses. Lots of "bet thats going to cost a lot mate!" comments etc.

The traffic was at a standstill for about 45 mins as well while they got the fire-engine in to mop up the oil.

It was a Golf, driven by a young girl, that wrote off my MX5 back in July. She turned right at a junction- straight into my path- and her (new) car ended up a much bigger mess than mine. All these idiots end up paying huge policies for their next cars though..

Bandit, I have every sympathy for you and, from what you say, it could well be written-off as the chassis must've taken a real whack.
Also, considering that you posted relatively soon after the accident, I admire your composure. Good luck,
Kenny
