Just got back from a Drive, started to hear a knock knock from the engine, so get out, and investiagte.

now, had some new magnicor leads from Mark Adams at the last tune, and they are very loose seeming... but seem to work...

Checked all them, and a few felt wobbly as always (is this normal.. loose as in they come of in your hand with little force needed)

anyway, knock knock...
traced it to the nearest front, offside cylinder..

if i remove the ht lead, the knocking stops, soon as i plug the lead back on, knock knock...

Only thing I have done is topped up with oil last night (might be a lil over full)

Any thoughts? car seems to drive fine, no real noticeble losses anywhere...

Just a little concerned..

Any Thoughts / Comments Appreciated.

Thanks

Just removed the leads, and the one plug for the cylinder in question, seems okish. Black and Brown end..

Noise still there, but car seems to go better now (chopped the end of a lead that wasnt sitting properly)

but noise still there..

thinking maybe its exhaust now, as, with the lead removed, the cylinder in question wont be giving out any exhaust (aside from the air / petrol)

and when driving, it sounds tappy blowy..

but just at standstill, its still loud.. but only from engine bay, cant really hear it when in car, except underload...

Gonna let it cool down and try feeling for blows tomorrow (ooe err)
had new header pipes recently, maybe they are coming loose / shifting / gasket gone.

Hi Jamie
The leads should be tight, normally difficult to remove, which end was loose?
Re knocking, check that the spark plug is tight, it could also be a gasket leak, gas leaks sound very metallic.. if you can rule out these it will involve investigation by engine specialist, it could be a number of things, but check the plugs and gaskets before we get too depressed..

The Lead end that connects to the 'cap' that sits over the plug,

on the offside nearest to driver plug, the lead virtually falls off the cap, ditto the 3rd one back (had to pull over at xmas due to lumpy running to find them dangling)

taken about 1cm of rubber off the leads now (red magnacor) and it 'clicks' into place now and feels firm...

might be why its running 'better' now as its firing properly..

but the noise is v.disturbing... I hate the car sounding like an old sierra...

Will get the header gasket checked out asap..

funnily the engine doesnt sound bad when i remove the ht lead, not lumpy, just quieter...

Heres hoping its just the gasket

I guess it wont sound so loud with the plug off coz there is no detonation so next to no explosive pressure, It points to a loosened manifold or the gasket blowing......don't panic yet, mine sounded like an old transit when my gaskets went

Well, good news.

just been out to play with the zorst, and can feel a definate blow from the manifold to head connection.

so, looks like (fingers crossed) its just the gasket gone..

strange, as it was a new header pipe 1 mth ago..

but

heres hoping.
